1000 Miglia, Viaggio nella Memoria by Daniela Facchinato Massimo Osti Studio book

Description

1000 Miglia, Viaggio Nella Memoria is an editorial project by Massimo Osti Studio, published in 1990 with the historic Italian publisher Electa. The limited edition of the first and only issue, enriched with an introduction by Massimo Osti, made the volume a rare collector's object. Osti's wife Daniela Facchinato's photographs are the protagonists of the book, one of the first works to explore the similarities between automotive aesthetics and clothing. The images "aged" and poetic feel is the result of a graphic treatment developed by Massimo Osti, a recall to the garment dyeing technique pioneered by the designer, whereby clothes take on unique shades and hues over time.

"As designer I love the beauty of objects which combine aesthetic and functional values; in this race I was struck by the enthusiasm of the people which was identical to my own, the atmosphere was excited and affectionate, the fascination of those sinuous, captivating 'bodies' enslaved everyone."

Story

This book record the link between sportswear designer Massimo Osti and the legendary Italian classic car rally "Mille Miglia". This race gave the iconic goggle jacket it's name  "Mille Miglia" after Osti sponsored and gave away a limited edition to the contenders of the 1988 and 1989 editions.

Osti's wife Daniela Facchinato's pictures of these C.P Company sponsored seasons are bundeled in this book. After years of only finding these for high prices a very small old stock was discovered and now available at Archivio85.

Brand

When he passed away in 2005, Massimo Osti left a huge legacy along with a vast and complicated inventory made of his own creations, items that he obsessivly collected and and unfinished projects. Re-organized by his family members, the archive based in Bologna now counts on a collection of more than 5.000 garments, accessories, lab dips, fabric samples and an extended library of magazine, books and prints.
After four years of research, selection and hard work, all of these tangible memories have resulted in the monograph "Ideas from Massimo Osti", a true masterpiece focusing on the working life of the godfather of sportswear.
